Any idea or invention that makes life easier must be a good thing, and when it comes to expansion ports on your PC, Xircom has come up with the goods. The PortStation is an expandable device that allows you to add a multitude of communications and connectivity ports to your PC or laptop via a single USB plug, bringing a number of benefits.
It's modular 'snap-on' design means you can add functionality to the PortStation as and when you need to, with virtually no limit. Also, if you have a notebook with a USB port you can plug in the PortStation and have access to all the office peripherals without the cost and size of a docking station. Gone are the days of reaching awkwardly behind your PC to connect a printer or scanner - you can simply reach for the right module on the desktop-mounted PortStation.
For those who are quickly running out of connectivity ports, the PortStation can provide additional connections or entirely replace your parallel, serial and PS/2 ports, enabling you to free up precious IRQs.
There are three different Starter Kits and even an end cap kit (with no ports so you can buy just the modules you need. The Office Starter Kit has parallel, 10Mb/sec Ethernet and PS/2 ports. Also available are a USB Starter Kit with seven ports, and a Connection Starter Kit which has serial, parallel and USB ports.
Software installation from the CD is a simple process - the hardware and the PortStation was up and running just a few minutes out of the box. Future additions to the range of modules include a 56Kbps modem and an ISDN modem.
