Workplace collaboration tool Slack looks like it has finally overcome its afternoon global connectivity outage.
In tweet posted in the last 15 minutes, the company claimed to have isolated the cause of the outage.

Its online 'service status', though, only claims: "We're getting closer to a solution, but we aren't out of the woods yet."
Users had been greeted with the message "Slack is trying to connect, so messages can't be sent yet" for much of the afternoon, and warned by ‘Connectbot' that "Your computer seems to be offline, so sending messages won't work at the moment."
Slack - whose company slogan is ‘Where work happens' - has been slow to identify the causes for the service outage.
For much of the afternoon its service-status page simply claimed: "We've received word that all workspaces are having troubles connecting to Slack. We're currently investigating the issue, and will have updates shortly."
That was subsequently updated to: "Our team is still looking into the cause of the connectivity issues, and we'll continue to update you on our progress."
The company's Twitter feed was even less enlightening.

Down Detector showed that the outage is affected Slack users globally.
Slack is widely used by start-ups as it offers a generous free option enabling teams to work together.
It offers more flexibility and, generally speaking, much greater reliability than alternatives such as Skype. Its mobile tools, too, are considerably less resource intensive than Skype's energy-hogging mobile apps.
Users have been forced to email co-workers instead or, worse still, actually talk to them.
