Tyre maker Michelin has signed a five-year deal with telecoms provider BT as part of a plan to transform its global network infrastructure.
Under the terms of the contract, BT will provide Michelin with managed network services for a total of 216 sites in 43 countries, spanning North America, South America, Europe, Africa and Australia. The network will be managed from France, and forms part of a wider digital transformation strategy for Michelin.
Agnès Mauffrey, Group CIO of Michelin, said that the company has been looking for new ideas to improve the performance and the efficiency of the company. "We see a great match between these requirements and BT's global reach, local in-country capabilities, and strong global portfolio," she said.
Mauffrey continued: "Our aim is to create a platform for digital innovation which will give our people around the world high performance access to cloud-based services, allowing them to collaborate more effectively. This is being done in a secure and reliable environment over which we have complete control."
BT said that it would support the tyre maker via its network operations centre and added that it would provide "centralised network management".
Luis Alverez, CEO of BT's Global Services division, said: "We are proud that Michelin has entrusted BT with its global IT network, the core platform that will underpin its digital transformation programme."
Supermarket chain The Co-op has also signed a five-year, mutli-million pound contract with BT. The telecoms giant will provide a new fibre network across The Co-op's UK food retail business, upgrading a legacy IT infrastructure currently in place in all of Co-op's 2,800 stores across the UK.
Cheryl Marshall, retail CIO at The Co-op, said that the partnership would be core to enabling the company's current digital transformation programme. "It provides the foundation blocks that future proof our investments and enable a digital future for our customers and members," she said.
