An 'authentication outage' has left users of Hotmail, Outlook and Skype locked out of their accounts while Microsoft is rushing to fix the issue.
Users trying to access their accounts are being told that their password is incorrect or that their account doesn't exist at all, mimicking recent issues suffered by Yahoo Mail users.
DownDetector is showing an increasingly unusual number of reports around the Office 365 ecosystem from around midday UK time rising to a peak around 2pm.
Naturally, users of Microsoft's cloud services have taken to Twitter and Reddit to moan about the downtime, with some complaining that Xbox online services have also been hit by the downtime.
"All MS is having issues. Tried signing into xbox (sic) and it acts nutty. The MS website says everything is down. (They'll text you when it's all fixed, IF you sign into your account...... yep, that's what it says)," one user moans.
Another adds: "I had just finished making some major changes to my account when it told me my account didn't exist. I was freaking out! Terrible timing MS..."
V3 has asked Microsoft for comment but has yet to receive a reply. However, the firm has responded to a user on Twitter and says that it's working on a fix.
"Sorry for the inconvenience. We know about the issue and are currently working on the resolution. Request you try and login again after a few hours," the firm said, albeit vaguely.
