Microsoft has added support for the MacBook Pro Touch Bar to all users of Office for Mac.
"Through the Touch Bar, Office intelligently puts the most common commands at your fingertips—all based on what you're doing in the document," the firm said in a blog post announcing the rollout, which comes just a week after Microsoft opened up the feature to beta testers.
For Microsoft Word, MacBook Pro users will get a new 'Word Focus' mode, that hides all the onscreen ribbons and crap so you can "focus on your work". Formatting tools are instead displayed on the Touch Bar, as are buttons for inserting comments, photos and hyperlinks.
PowerPoint users will find it easier to manipulate graphic elements using the Touch Bar, according to Microsoft, which notes that a graphical map will show all slide layers, making it easier to find individual parts of the presentation. What's more, sliding your finger across the Touch Bar will allow for the rotation of objects.
As you can imagine, the Excel features don't sound all that exciting. Microsoft explains: "Typing an equals sign into a cell in Excel immediately pulls up the most recently used functions in the Touch Bar.
"For example, with a tap (for the formula) and another tap (for a named range) in the Touch Bar, you can quickly sum a range in your spreadsheet. The Touch Bar also provides quick access to borders, cell colours and recommended charts—making it easier than ever to organise and visualise your data."
Outlook and Skype are also getting Touch Bar support, enabling users to view calendar events, quickly browse through recent documents while composing an email and to join a Skype for Business meeting.
Last month it was revealed that law students have been using the Retina Touch Bar on their Apple Macbook Pro machines to cheat their bar exams, leading to a decision by North Carolina Exam Board bosses to enforce a ban on the functionality.
