Samsung will limit the maximum charge that owners of all Note 7 smartphones in Europe can achieve to 60 per cent, as it continues to deal with the fall out of the issues that blighted the device since launch.
Samsung already issued a similar limit on battery charge to the first batch of devices but is now extending this to all Note 7 phones, no doubt to ensure anyone still with the fire-prone device is not at risk of it exploding, and get them to return it.
The software update will rollout from Monday, 31 October across Europe.
Conor Pierce, vice president of Samsung Electronics UK & Ireland, said issuing the update should remind owners of the device they should return it as soon as possible given the risk they pose.
"This new battery software update is specifically designed to remind all Galaxy Note7 customers to replace their device at their earliest possible convenience through their local Galaxy Note7 Replacement Programme," he said.
"We once again would like to apologise for not meeting the standard of product excellence that our customers have come to expect from Samsung and we sincerely thank them for their continued understanding and cooperation.”
Samsung said that efforts to get owners of the devices to return them are working, with two-thirds of all Note 7 devices in Europe returned so far.
Samsung has been on the backfoot for over a month now since reports of exploding phones first started surfacing.
It went from bad to worse for the firm when it was discovered that replacemnet devices intended to solve the problem were also catching on fire, leading to a total abandonment of the device.
Samsung expects to lose as much as $1bn from the device's failure this quarter alone, and is already starting to make references to next years Galaxy S8 as a means to shift focus to next years devices, and hope customers remain loyal.
