Apple has announced that the iWork tool will enable real-time editing among multiple participants, in a clear move to rival similar services such as Google Docs.
The firm claimed that it will "change the way you work", although in many ways Apple is playing catch-up with other business collaboration software providers in the market.
Google Docs has offered this for a long time, as have services including Office 365 and Box.
Susan Prescott, vice president of worldwide apps product marketing at Apple, demonstrated the feature live at the iPhone 7 launch by showing how it could be used to put together a slide show with colleagues located elsewhere.
Analysts noted that, while only a small update, it could take the iWork suite to a wider audience.

Apple's move underlines its desire to become a bigger player in the business market, which was revealed last year to be worth $25bn to the company.
Apple also announced a new programme called Everyone Can Code to encourage children to learn to code, or at least to learn to code using Apple's Swift development language.
The company also confirmed the release of iOS 10, which will be offered as a free download to all customers from 13 September.
The iOS update will run on all iPhones from the iPhone 5 and above, the iPad Mini 2 and above, the fourth generation iPad and above, and the iPod sixth generation and above.
