High availability specialist Veeam is one of the first firms to announce support for Microsoft's upcoming Windows Server 2016 platform with the next release of Availability Suite, which combines backup, replication and monitoring tools for virtualised enterprise environments.
Availability Suite comprises Veeam's Backup & Replication for virtualised infrastructure, plus the Veeam ONE tool for monitoring, reporting and capacity planning.
The firm said that the new release will fully integrate with Microsoft's Windows Server 2016, Hyper-V 2016 and enterprise applications to deliver greater security for organisations migrating to Microsoft's next-generation platforms.
"It is our goal to be one of the first availability solutions to fully support Windows Server 2016 and Hyper-V 2016 technologies, but also to deliver the most comprehensive support," said Veeam's vice president of product strategy Doug Hazelman.
"The latest version of Veeam Availability Suite will provide users with the ability to use the most current Microsoft technology and benefit from enterprise-grade security and reduced complexities."
Veeam is working with Microsoft to ensure the firms' respective products work tightly together and provide the right combination of virtualisation and fast recovery to ensure high availability of critical applications and services.
On Windows Server 2016, Veeam Backup & Replication will be able to protect a host system and the guest operating system of protected virtual machines, partly thanks to PowerShell Direct which enables PowerShell commands to be executed inside a virtual machine from the host operating system.
For Hyper-V, Availability Suite 9.5 adds integration with Resilient Change Tracking for backups and restores, as well as Hyper-V hosts installed on Nano Server and Storage Spaces Direct, the new software-defined storage service in Windows Server 2016.
Veeam is also adding support for the latest versions of Microsoft Exchange, SharePoint, Active Directory and SQL Server to its Explorer tools that enable administrators to search through backup sets for individual items to recover.
Overall, Veeam said that more than 100 new features and enhancements will be introduced in Veeam Availability Suite 9.5 when it hits availability.
