Microsoft is looking to simplify licensing for enterprise customers with the introduction of a new offering that bundles Windows 10 with Office 365 and other key tools under a single enterprise-wide licence.
Set to be available with the Windows 10 Anniversary Update from 2 August, Secure Productive Enterprise combines the Windows 10 Enterprise edition, Office 365 and the Enterprise Mobility + Security suite (formerly the Enterprise Mobility Suite) into a package that organisations can procure via a single licence.
Secure Productive Enterprise is intended to replace the Enterprise Cloud Suite licensing bundle introduced in 2014, adding additional value for customers, according to Microsoft.
Microsoft will offer the new bundle in several plans, in line with the way Office 365 is licensed to enterprise customers. The first two are Secure Productive Enterprise E3 and Secure Productive Enterprise E5.
As part of this naming scheme, Windows 10 Enterprise is being renamed as Windows 10 Enterprise E3, while Windows 10 Enterprise E5 is to be a new edition of the platform that comes with Microsoft's Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection service.
"To further simplify our offerings, we are standardising packaging offers across Office 365, Windows 10 Enterprise and the Enterprise Mobility + Security suite. Moving forward you will see E3 and E5 offerings for each of these products," explained Julia White, Microsoft's general manager for cloud platform.
White claimed that the new Secure Productive Enterprise plans offer the best deal for large organisations, although the company has yet to disclose prices.
"In recent months, we've announced cutting-edge cloud-based security technology, including Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection for end-point breach detection, Cloud App Security for getting control of the SaaS apps employees use, Azure Information Protection to ensure information stays secure, and Office 365 Advanced Security Management to give greater visibility and control over your Office 365 environment. All of these capabilities are included in the Secure Productive Enterprise offering," she said.
The Secure Productive Enterprise E3 bundle will be available when the Windows 10 Anniversary Update launches on 2 August, and the Secure Productive Enterprise E5 offering will become available later in 2016 when the new Windows 10 and Enterprise Mobility + Security functionality has all been released, Microsoft said.
