HP has released HP Helion CloudSystem 9.0, the latest version of the firm's turnkey private cloud platform based on OpenStack, along with a new ConvergedSystem 700 integrated system that provides the infrastructure on which to deploy the software.
First announced in June, HP Helion CloudSystem 9.0 incorporates HP's Helion OpenStack distribution and the HP Helion Development Platform based on Cloud Foundry, along with a self-service portal and lifecycle management tools to deliver a complete private cloud for infrastructure-as-a-service or platform-as-a-service situations.
In addition, the new release integrates HP Helion Eucalyptus, a separate cloud stack compatible with the APIs used by Amazon's AWS public cloud services, enabling customers to move applications from AWS back into their own data centre if they wish.
HP Helion CloudSystem 9.0 provides a modern development environment that can be integrated with existing customer IT investments to move traditional applications to the cloud, as well as to develop and deploy cloud-native applications using multiple development languages, HP said.
"Enterprises are attracted by the promise of the cloud. However, for many the success of a cloud initiative hinges on the ability to integrate existing and new technology," said Bill Hilf, senior vice president for HP Helion product and service management.
HP's CloudSystem Software is offered in two packages. CloudSystem Foundation provides the core infrastructure services, while CloudSystem Enterprise provides the full suite designed to support advanced infrastructure services and platform and application services for hybrid cloud environments.
CloudSystem 9.0 integrates HP's Cloud Service Automation and HP Operations Orchestration software for advanced infrastructure and application services, as well as HP Helion CloudSystem Foundation software and the HP Matrix Operating Environment.
It is built on HP Helion OpenStack 1.1, which is currently based on the Juno release of OpenStack introduced last year, rather than the newer Kilo release from earlier this year. It also integrates with HP OneView for support of physical server provisioning, including deployment of bare metal resources, HP said.
To complement the software, HP is also making available the HP ConvergedSystem 700, an engineered system that the firm describes as offering the optimal infrastructure platform for hosting CloudSystem.
This comprises two or more HP BL460c blade servers based on Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 processors, combined with 3Par StoreServe storage, HP or Cisco networking and HP OneView management, all factory-integrated into a data centre rack.
HP Helion CloudSystem 9.0 and HP ConvergedSystem 700 are available now standalone or as an integrated offering, HP said.
