OpenText is offering a complete cloud-based big data analytics service designed to enable customers to derive key insights from all kinds of data at their disposal without having to build and operate their own dedicated infrastructure.
Available immediately, OpenText Big Data Analytics (BDA) is styled as an all-in-one advanced analytics tool offered as a complete cloud service on a tiered subscription pricing basis.
OpenText said that many companies are looking for solutions to extract value from the growing volume of information flowing in and out of their organisation, and apply the knowledge gained to business decisions.
However, the limitations of traditional business intelligence tools have made this difficult, while building an in-house big data solution can be complex and challenging.
To address this, OpenText BDA has been designed as a complete cloud-based solution, with high-performance data storage, pre-built algorithms and tailored professional services to allow customers to quickly and easily analyse their data, regardless of the source, and gain key insights.
"OpenText BDA makes the power of real big data and advanced analytics capabilities accessible to everyday business users in the cloud. OpenText is the only vendor with integrated solutions for advanced and embedded analytics to help global leaders understand and engage their market and customers," said OpenText chief executive Mark Barrenechea.
The new service is part of the OpenText Enterprise Information Management portfolio, and just the first of a series of planned analytics-as-a-service offerings aimed at helping OpenText customers minimise their IT and upfront investment in advanced analytics while delivering the power of big data to everyday business processes and functions, the firm said.
Among the key features of OpenText BDA are a column-oriented database claimed to provide 1,000 times the performance of a traditional relational database, statistical algorithms for functions such as profiling, mapping, clustering and forecasting, plus the fact that it is a managed service.
OpenText is not the first software firm to spot an opportunity for cloud-based big data services, and others such as Actian have offered such services for several years.
OpenText quotes prices for BDA as ranging from $18,000 a year for 50 million rows of data, to $300,000 a year for up to a billion rows of data. It will also support customers with requirements beyond a billion rows.
