SoftMaker, the developer of a range of productivity tools, has upgraded its SoftMaker Office HD suite for Android tablets to include more high-end features typically seen only in desktop suites for Windows PCs.
Available now, the updated SoftMaker Office HD for Android adds a range of new features for tablet users, including direct access to Amazon Cloud Drive, in addition to Dropbox, Google Drive, Evernote and OneDrive.
It also delivers enhanced file filters for Microsoft Office documents so that SoftMaker Office HD can seamlessly open, edit and save Microsoft DOC, XLS and PPT files for versions of Office up to 2003, as well as the newer DOCX, XLSX and PPTX files types.
This makes SoftMaker Office HD an ideal mobile companion suite for anyone using Microsoft Office on the desktop, the firm said.
Launched last November, SoftMaker Office HD for Android comprises three applications - TextMaker HD, PlanMaker HD and Presentations HD - which are a word processor, spreadsheet and presentation app respectively.
The three applications are designed to run on ARM-based tablets with Android 4.0 or above, with a 7in screen or larger recommended.
They are available singly or as a suite and have been developed to offer the full functionality of desktop suites such as Microsoft Office, but optimised for touchscreen use.
"Android tablets are growing in popularity with UK users, but serious, robust Android Office applications are rare. In SoftMaker Office HD, we've created the most functional software package for Android by far," said SoftMaker managing director Martin Kotulla.
"SoftMaker Office HD goes above and beyond other packages, allowing Android tablet users to do anything they can do on a PC, through a user interface that has been perfectly designed for touchscreens."
SoftMaker's chief competitor in this space is Microsoft's Office for Android apps, which likewise provide a touch-optimised experience, but do not have the full capabilities of Microsoft's desktop applications and must be used in conjunction with an Office 365 paid subscription to unlock all the features and capabilities.
In contrast, SoftMaker Office HD can be purchased outright from the company's website for £13.99, while the individual apps can be downloaded from the Google Play Store for £4.29 each. Existing SoftMaker Office HD users can obtain the updated versions for free.
