NEW ORLEANS: Sage has launched Sage Live, a cloud-based accounting software suite built on the Salesforce1 platform and designed to break down virtual walls between back- and front-office IT systems.
Formerly known as Sage Life and announced in May as part of Sage's partnership with Salesforce, Sage Live was revealed at the Sage Summit 2015 in New Orleans by chief executive Stephen Kelly.
Kelly touted Sage Live as providing a single view of customer, finance, payroll and accounting data in one place, rather than being stored and managed in separate front- and back-office systems.
"When we imagine [how] businesses should work, we see the smashing down of the walls between the back and the front office to create a single office where everybody in your organisation, potentially your supply chain, your customers, can potentially have a 360-degree view of everything that is important to your business to be successful," he said.
Himanshu Palsule, chief technology officer and head of strategy at Sage, explained that SMEs find it difficult to integrate real-time information with accounting systems, thereby preventing fast and insightful decision making.
"The only way to solve the problem was to smash down the wall that keeps you from functioning as one office," he said.
Sage Live can pull data from third-party business apps, also built on the Salesforce1 platform, and integrate it with internal company data.
This effectively allows data to be collected and used from across a company's business chain, not just the accounts department.
This cloud-powered data integration allows finance approval alerts to be sent to mobile devices such as the Apple Watch, and chat functionality from Salesforce Chatter allows customers to communicate and collaborate inside and outside the business.
Palsule explained that Sage Live is built on the cloud with mobile and social features that enable employees to work from any device.
"Sage Live lets you look ahead from one single source of information controlling your business from anywhere," he said.
"If you're ready to realise the full value of a real-time, connected, collaborative world, and start running your business from your phone, Sage Live fulfils that promise."
Sage Live is available now in the US, and will be rolled out to the UK and Ireland by the end of the summer.
Sage is not abandoning its on-premise roots, but has had cloud software firmly in its sights for some time, having pushed its 50 Accounts software into the cloud in 2014.
