Apple has started selling tickets for this year's Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC), a regular sell-out event at which Apple discusses its plans and shows off planned updates for the iOS and Mac OS X platforms.
WWDC 2015 starts on 8 June at San Francisco's Moscone West. The extravaganza tends to be standing room only, but Apple streams the event online to what it claims are millions of enthusiasts.
What will be announced is unknown at this stage, but a report on 9to5mac suggests that the iOS 9 overhaul will focus more on stability improvements rather than major new features.
Apple's senior vice president of worldwide marketing, Philip Schiller, did his best to drum up excitment by appealing to developers who have benefited from the success of the App Store and the forthcoming updates that will be shown off at the event.
"The App Store ignited an app ecosystem that is simply amazing, forever changing the lives of customers and creating millions of jobs worldwide," he said.
"We've got incredible new technologies for iOS and OS X to share with developers at WWDC and around the world, and can't wait to see the next generation of apps they create."
Developers can apply for WWDC 2015 tickets now, and will know whether they have been successful by 20 April. Students studying science and technology subjects can apply for one of 350 scholarships which will allow free entry.
Successful applicants can choose from over 100 technical sessions covering the development, deployment and integration of the latest iOS and OS X features.
Hands-on sessions with hardware will be supported by 1,000 Apple engineers along with the chance to watch the Apple Design awards.
Developers should apply for tickets using their official Apple credentials. Attendees will be picked at random and it is possible that the first clue of acceptance will be the deduction of $1,599 from the account to which the Apple ID is linked.
The WWDC announcement comes just after Apple began offering developers the chance to download iOS 8.4 for testing, with a focus on improving its Music app.
