Google caused an outage in Gmail on the weekend by letting an intermediate SSL certificate for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol expire. Millions of users were unable to send or receive emails for several hours. Google moved quickly to fix the problem and get Gmail up and running again.
Data-leaking Chrome extension puts over one million web users at risk
Security researchers unveiled a significant threat in an apparently innocent Chrome browser extension, which puts the data of millions of web users at risk.
ScrapeSentry reported that the Chrome store's Webpage Screenshot extension, which takes and stores screenshots, can also send personal information to an IP address in the US. This meant that users could have unwittingly shared personal information to be used for illegal purposes.

Bloomberg reported that Google and Microsoft have supported initiatives unveiled by the Obama administration to combat the negative affects of climate change on the health of US citizens.
Google forced to bow to Turkish government image takedown request
Google was joined by Twitter and Facebook in a legal tussle with the Turkish government over a request to remove a controversial image from their services. The image of a prosecutor, Mehmet Selim Kiraz, held hostage by far-left militants was shared on the sites to the objections of the Turkish government.
All three companies complied with a court request to pull the image, but none of them was happy with the situation and plan to appeal the decision.

The search firm had to fend off claims by watchdogs that the Kids app contains content to which parents would reasonably believe their children not to be exposed.
Google gets close to making Android Wear for the iPhone
The Verge reported that Google is working on making its Android Wear smartwatch platform compatible with Apple's iPhone, according to a source close to the development team.
If this happens and Apple allows the platform onto iOS, it will put Android Wear-based smartwatches in direct competition with the Apple Watch. Neither Apple nor Google commented on the rumour.
Google rumour mill churns out Twitter purchase speculation
The Guardian reported that Twitter stock prices soared on rumours about Google potentially buying the social network. This is not the first time such rumours have caused share prices to spike. There have been four similar rumours since 2009 surrounding a potential purchase of Twitter by Google.
With neither of the companies offering any comment, the rumour remains unconfirmed.
