Citrix has refreshed its GoToMeeting web conferencing and collaboration service to make it easier to set up and attend meetings, and improved cross-platform support including the ability to handoff a meeting from an iPad to a desktop session.
GoToMeeting is Citrix's online service for hosting meetings whereby attendees can see each other, share presentations and show content on their computer desktop via a web browser or dedicated apps on mobile devices.
The latest update features a redesigned user interface to make it even simpler to hold high-definition online meetings with colleagues, customers and friends anywhere around the world, Citrix said.
For example, the GoToMeeting plug-ins for Google Calendar and Outlook now allow users to schedule meetings directly from a calendar invitation without having to open the application, according to Citrix.
Meanwhile, a new feature called Handoff enables users of Apple devices to start a meeting on an iPad or iPhone and transfer it to a Mac desktop session without having to reconnect.
With a nod to all the hype around wearables, Citrix has also added support so that users with an Android-based device running the GoToMeeting Android app can join or leave a meeting with one click on their smartwatch, the firm said.
iPhone and Android users now have a one-touch dial feature to connect to a meeting using a voice call rather than by VoIP, for situations where the mobile signal provides only a low-bandwidth connection.
These features are designed to make it easier than ever to set up and operate a meeting using GoToMeeting, according to Citrix.
"Productive meetings don't just start and stop when you step in the 'room'. They require preparation and follow-up. With the new GoToMeeting experience, we're making the preparation, collaboration and post-meeting communication phases of the work day as seamless and intuitive as possible," said Chris Battles, vice president for product development at Citrix's Cloud Platform division.
GoToMeeting is available on several pricing plans including a free tier for up to three participants, while GoToMeeting Pro and GoToMeeting Pro + offer up to 25 or 100 participants for a monthly or annual fee.
