SAP has announced S/4HANA, an overhaul of its business software suite that makes use of the data processing and analysis provided by the HANA platform.
The company is offering the software suite as a cloud, on-premise or hybrid deployment, targeting enterprise customers operating cutting-edge or legacy IT infrastructures.
S/4HANA is built around the HANA in-memory database platform, and harnesses its real-time data intelligence capabilities.
The platform pools large amounts of data by integrating several business processes, such as enterprise resource planning, customer relationship management and product lifestyle management, into one system.
This means that data analysis, and activities like creating business accounts and forecasts, can be carried out much faster, as the need to call up data from traditional hard disk storage is bypassed.
SAP will pitch this rapid functionality at enterprises wishing to speed up such processes without escalating IT costs.
S/4HANA features SAP's Fiori user interface, which simplifies the software's use across a variety of devices to deliver real-time company insight on mobile devices.
Bill McDermott, chief executive of SAP, claimed that S/4HANA embodies the company's 'run simple' ethos and reinvents SAP's business software for the digital age.
"This is an historic day and we believe it marks the beginning of the end for the 20th century IT stack and all the complexity that came with it," he said.
Analyst firm Pierre Audoin Consultants said it saw S/4HANA as part of SAP's goal to reduce complexity for customers.
"While the SAP landscape has become more and more complex due to the various new components the vendor has added over time, it is SAP's intention to reduce this complexity with S/4 HANA. With this, SAP delivers on its promise to provide an integrated system," it said.
SAP has touted the HANA Cloud Platform as core to exploiting the IoT and big data.
