New year, new you? Well, whether or not you're planning on engaging in some of the more tried and tested (and usually failed) resolutions such as drinking less or exercising more, there are some technology resolutions worth sticking to.
With so many issues for IT chiefs and their staff to think about, a checklist of good practice guidelines, promises and commitments set out at the start of the year could prove of vital importance as the year unfolds.
So to help get you in the right frame of mind, V3 has put together a list of 10 key resolutions we think those in the IT world should consider.
10. I will take security seriously
If 2014 taught IT staff one thing it’s that security threats are real, they are serious and they are here to stay.
From Heartbleed, which put almost two-thirds of web servers at risk, to the hacking of Sony, which ultimately led to The Interview being cancelled costing millions in lost revenues, there was no shortage of headline grabbing moments.
Such incidents underline that threats of all types exist, and companies need to be prepared before they happen, and be able to react quickly when they occur, especially if the attacks breach networks.
It is no good assuming your business isn’t under threat, as we’ve seen all types of sectors under attack. Even high street kitchen retailer Lakeland was hit in 2013.
There are, of course, many businesses out there following good practice guidelines and signing up to initiatives designed to instil security throughout the company.
However, it the IT team, as the guardians of a company’s access to the wider web and the perils that lie in wait, that must shoulder the burden of responsibility and make sure that defences can withstand the myriad threats.
