Salesforce-owned Heroku has brought its Performance Dynos service to Europe, promising developers of "large-scale, high-performance customer-facing apps" improved application response times.
Salesforce bought Heroku in 2010 and customers using its platform as a service for app development now include the likes of Severn Trent Water, Toyota Motor Europe and Westfield Labs.
The move to bring its service to Europe follows on from the opening of the Heroku's first data centre in Europe and a threefold increase in its European workforce. Heroku has also seen a 179 percent increase in the number of apps being built on its cloud platform in Europe in 2014.
By bringing Performance Dynos to the continent, Heroku said it has broadened the options available to users who wish to deploy applications from a Europe-based data centre, to help reduce app latency and improve response times.
Heroku claimed a European deployment of Performance Dynos could deliver a response time improvement of up to 100ms.
Adam Gross, vice president of Product at Heroku, told V3 that both the company and Salesforce have found that their European customers' app development and business growth is particularly sophisticated and as such they need the technologies that support this.
"When we originally built Performance Dynos, we thought it was going to be more of a specialised product for some of our start-up customers here in San Francisco, and what we've seen is that companies - whether you're a Westfield's or a Toyota - they all have this requirement for being digital native companies and making that transition," he said.
"When we combine that with the growth we're seeing in Europe over all, it really made a lot of sense for us to say this is the time to make sure that our European customers have the most sophisticated technology we can offer."
Gross also said that Salesforce as a whole had seen major growth in the European market over the past quarter, saying: "Across the company, Europe is really important for us."
V3 asked Gross whether Salesforce is considering other markets east of Europe, noting the growing start up community in Tel Aviv as a potential area. While Gross said Europe would be the company's main focus he did say other markets were "certainly within scope for us".
A clear example of Salesforce's commitment to Europe can be seen in its recent opening of a UK-based data centre to provide cloud services that keep data on the continent.
