Rackspace has announced a suite of application templates that can be used by Rackspace Private Cloud platform customers to deploy some of the most commonly used server workloads in minutes.
Available now, Rackspace Private Cloud solution templates are available on the same Github page where customers will have downloaded the OpenStack-based Rackspace Private Cloud code itself, the firm said.
It is offering the templates to allow customers to realise the true business value of a private cloud, according to Bryan Thompson, senior director of product management for Rackspace Private Cloud.
"Deploying apps from scratch is a months-long process that doesn't always scale. The deployments typically aren't repeatable. They are unique, like snowflakes, making them difficult to automate and reproduce," he said on the Rackspace blog.
"These templates empower you to launch a production-ready application stack on Rackspace Private Cloud in minutes, not months.
"And when we say production-ready stack we mean it; these templates deliver multi-tier, scalable applications with redundancy, caching, high availability and more built in."
Rackspace is initially offering six templates for the Magento e-commerce platform: Drupal content management system; Galera cluster solution for MySQL databases; MongoDB NoSQL data platform; ELK stack for log aggregation and analytics; and Hortonworks HDP Hadoop platform.
To deploy any of these onto a private cloud, customers need do little more than download the desired template from Github, create a new stack in their Horizon dashboard under the Orchestration tab, upload the template and environment file, then click launch, Rackspace said.
The templates are provided to Rackspace customers for free, and the firm said it plans to offer additional solution templates with future versions of Rackspace Private Cloud.
The most recent version of the Rackspace Private Cloud software, announced in September, included an uptime guarantee from Rackspace covering availability of the OpenStack application programming interfaces once operational.
