Facebook is facing criticisms over its decision to push users onto its standalone chat application Messenger.
Facebook started to push users in the direction of its app earlier this year, but has recently began increasing its efforts. Last week the firm revealed that desktop revenues are falling, but revenues from mobile are increasing.
V3 staffers have seen notifications from the firm informing them of the move to the Messenger app, and telling them to prepare for app notifications.
"We've moved over to Messenger," it said. "You'll still see new message notifications here, and it'll be easy to switch between Facebook and Messenger."
Facebook told V3: "In the next few days, we're continuing to notify more people that if they want to send and receive Facebook messages, they'll need to download the Messenger app.
"Our goal is to focus development efforts on making Messenger the best mobile messaging experience possible and avoid the confusion of having separate Facebook mobile messaging experiences. Messenger is used by more than 200 million people every month, and we'll keep working to make it an even more engaging way to connect with people."
While Facebook said the move is aimed at the user, some will not be happy with the forced adoption of the standalone application. At the time of writing the Messenger app had a one-and-a-half star review average on the Apple App Store, from 1,654 reviews.
