Microsoft’s efforts at boosting its mobile operating system appear to be paying off as our review of its Windows Phone 8.1 update was the most popular content on V3 last week.
With numerous improvements to its Word Flow keyboard, mobile device management support, encrypted email and VPN support, there is plenty to recommend Windows Phone, especially for enterprise users, although the lack of key apps compared to Android and iOS is still an issue.
While Windows Phone 8.1 represents the frontline of Microsoft’s operating system efforts, the firm still has to deal with issues relating to its aging XP platforms.
Last week, it had to urge caution against a support workaround that some forums were touting that involves tricking Microsoft servers into seeing Windows XP machines as running newer systems.
Apple also faced security problems after Australian users reported having their device hijacked and ransom demands. The firm issued advice for users to change their passwords.
Elsewhere, Salesforce’s move to rebrand its London home from Heron Tower to Salesforce Tower has met with outcry from existing occupants who are not too pleased with the change. Lawyers have reportedly been called.
Finally, the FBI was singing the praises of a former hacker turned helper, in the form of Sabu. Court documents claimed his knowledge helped stop some 300 cyber attacks.
