Microsoft has purchased a French mobile push notification and analytics company called Capptain in a move to enhance its mobile offerings to businesses. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Capptain offers real-time mobile app analytics and the ability to send push notifications to users based on this data in real time.
This allows firms to monitor and more quickly react to customer problems and provide relevant offers and notifications rather than spamming users, according to Capptain.
It works across all major mobile platforms, covering iOS, Android, Windows Phone, BlackBerry and HTML5.
Microsoft project manager Omar Khan wrote in a blog post that the deal was key for Microsoft to help it meet all aspects of mobility that affect the business world.
"Mobility is the driving force behind how people live, work and connect with each other - and that mobile world is powered by the cloud," he said.
"In this world, customers and employees alike can share vital, real-time information to be productive on the go - and organisations can facilitate deeper, real-time engagement with customers to maximise value and transform businesses for the better."
Khan said that Microsoft will now integrate Capptain into its Azure set of services to allow firms to build maps that can engage with customers and employees, and analyse their use and improve engagement.
"With Capptain's solution, organisations can analyse customer and employee behaviour in real time, and respond by pushing targeted messages, announcements, information or offers," he said.
"This information empowers organisations to provide personalised, specific content to their customers in order to maximise business opportunities."
Capptain confirmed the deal on a page on its website, thanking those who have helped build the company up over the past six years.
