Virtualisation specialist Veeam has unveiled the latest release of its Backup & Replication tool for VMware and Hyper-V virtualised infrastructure. It has also announced it will be combined with the Veeam ONE reporting and capacity planning tool as a new Availability Suite product when it ships.
Due for release in the third quarter of this year, Veeam Backup & Replication v8 adds a number of enhancements, including support for Microsoft SQL and Active Directory in its Explorer technology, which enables users to search the backups for individual items to recover.
The new version also features integration with EMC Data Domain Boost and NetApp, enabling backup file transformations up to 10 times faster and full backups up to 50 percent faster under EMC, while NetApp users can now create backups from NetApp SnapShot every 15 minutes or less with no impact on the production environment, Veeam said.
Once delivered, the new release will form part of Veeam's new Availability Suite, which the firm is touting as a comprehensive solution to ensure all customer applications and data are accessible whenever and wherever needed.
Also in Availability Suite is the Veeam ONE tool, which integrates with Backup & Replication to provide advanced monitoring and capacity planning capabilities for a customer's backup repositories to ensure the protection of their virtual environment.
Veeam claimed that the suite will offer near-continuous data protection, along with recovery time objectives of less than 15 minutes for all applications and data, in order to meet the objectives of what it refers to as the modern always-on business.
"The modern business cycle is no longer confined to five days a week, eight hours a day. IT organisations must make applications and data available to all stakeholders every minute of every day," said Veeam chief executive Ratmir Timashev
Pricing for Veeam Availability Suite will be on a per-socket basis, starting at £885.80 for the Standard Edition, with the Enterprise Edition at £1,195.40 and the Enterprise Plus Edition at £1,685.60. Pricing includes the first year of maintenance and support.
