IBM is bringing its portfolio of cloud services together under a single point of access to make it easier for enterprise customers. At the same time, the firm unveiled additional cloud services are in BlueMix, its platform-as-a-service (PaaS) aimed at developers.
Announced at the IBM Impact conference in Las Vegas, Cloud Marketplace represents the next major step in IBM's cloud leadership, the firm claimed. Essentially an app store for cloud services, it enables customers to discover, test and experience a broad range of enterprise-grade cloud services online, from both IBM and its partners.
Robert LeBlanc, IBM senior vice president for Software and Cloud Solutions, said that business users are increasingly looking for easy access to a wide range of services to address new business models and shifting market conditions.
"IBM Cloud Marketplace puts big data analytics, mobile, social, commerce, integration – the full power of IBM-as-a-Service and our ecosystem – at our clients' fingertips to help them quickly deliver innovative services to their constituents," he said.
But it is not aimed solely at customers. IBM said its Cloud Marketplace also offers a gateway for its business partner ecosystem to tap into the rapidly expanding cloud market opportunity.
As part of this, IBM announced an expansion of its BlueMix developer cloud services, running on SoftLayer infrastructure and based on Cloud Foundry.
More than 30 new services have been added, among them cloud-integration tools to securely connect and integrate applications and information with cloud-based services, data and analytics services, plus services aimed at the Internet of Things.
DevOps tools include an integrated rapid development environment, Continuous Integration service, and monitoring and analytics services to identify application problems during development.
IBM also announced BlueMix Garages, physical locations where developers can meet and collaborate with IBM experts, with the first located in San Francisco. IBM said it intends to launch additional BlueMix Garages in future, but did not specify locations.
