Microsoft has secured yet another patent licensing deal with a vendor using Google's Chrome and Android platforms, this time with Motorola Solutions.

Microsoft said the deal would provide worldwide licensing for use of its patents in Motorola Solutions’ devices but details on the specifics of the patents involved in the deal were vague.

Motorola Solutions focuses on enterprise and government products and services. Its counterpart Motorola Mobility was acquired by Lenovo in January, and is the more well-known Motorola company in the technology industry, producing consumer devices.

Nick Psyhogeos, Microsoft Innovation and Intellectual Property Group general manager, said: "Microsoft and Motorola Solutions share a respect for intellectual property and a commitment to fair and reasonable patent-licensing programs."

Psyhogeos said the deal would ensure Microsoft avoids litigation disputes, while accelerating the pace of innovation between the two firms. At the time of publication, Microsoft had not commented further on the deal after a request for information from V3.

Joe White, Motorola Solutions' vice president for Enterprise Mobile Computing, said: "Our Motorola Solutions communications technology works best for everyone when it is backed with robust intellectual property and patents. We are pleased to have agreed upon a solution that allows our customers to purchase Android products from Motorola Solutions with confidence."

Since Microsoft launched its IP licensing program in December 2003, the company has made more than 1,100 licensing agreements.

Microsoft's patent-licensing programme for Android device makers has resulted in a number of signed license agreements, notably with Samsung, LG, HTC, Acer and Barnes & Noble.
