Azul Systems is offering enterprise firms a multi-platform implementation of the OpenJDK open-source Java project with full commercial support available, enabling deployments across Linux, Windows and cloud platforms.
Available immediately, Zulu Enterprise is a fully supported build of OpenJDK with a battery of subscription support options, making it suitable for broad deployment across the enterprise, according to Azul.
In particular, Zulu Enterprise is being pitched at firms that have invested heavily in applications running on various versions of Java and have a need for cost-effective ongoing support for these applications, the firm said.
"The Java Community now has a compelling new choice in a fully-supported, enterprise-class Java SE solution based on the open source OpenJDK. Zulu Enterprise enables enterprises to run their Java applications their way, in their chosen environment and on their timetable of version evolution; cost effectively, reliably and dependably," said Azul chief executive Scott Sellers.
Azul announced Zulu last year as an OpenJDK implementation for Microsoft's Windows Azure cloud platform. With Zulu Enterprise, support has been extended to cover Amazon Web Services and Rackspace on the cloud side, but also Windows Server, Red Hat, Suse, Ubuntu and CentOS Linux distributions on the server side.
Azul is promising a 10-year support lifetime for major releases, plus customer access to bug and security fixes out of the standard release cycle. The firm said it is offering commercial support 24 hours a day, all year round, delivered by a globally distributed team with many years of experience supporting mission-critical Java deployments across a variety of industries.
Support options include Application Guard and a dedicated Technical Account Manager. With Application Guard, the Zulu JDK/JVM is tested against a customer's specific operating system and configuration and incorporated into Azul's quality assurance processes, the firm said.
Meanwhile, the dedicated technical account manager option sees a dedicated technical support engineer assigned to a customer, ensuring continuity of knowledge and hands-on management of to expedite problem resolution, the firm said.
A full list of the Zulu Enterprise Support Packages is available on the firm's website. Pricing is available on request, but starts at $400 per server per year for Gold support, with volume discounts and higher levels of support available.
