Supermarket giant Tesco ruffled privacy protectors’ feathers last week with its decision to install technology that scans shoppers' faces for targeted advertising at its petrol stations. The OptimEyes technology claims to recognise facial characteristics that determine a customer's gender and age in order to show more relevant video adverts on screens as they queue. But some have pointed out that Tesco now has a user consent issue to deal with.
EE was busy last week touting its wares for business users, offering super-sized 3G and 4G data bundles up to 1PB, which the mobile operator said could save broadcasters and other data-intensive firms millions of pounds. EE also switched on its 300Mbps 4G services in the Tech City area of east London as it moves to future proof its network from huge demands.
