The government's G-Cloud IT procurement service is inaccessible just a day after the launch of the scheme's latest version, G-Cloud 4.
G-Cloud's latest framework launched yesterday, bringing the total number of suppliers on the service to over 1,000. However, users looking to procure services using G-Cloud's CloudStore are instead being presented with a username and password submission form used by developers for test purposes.
G-Cloud communications officer Raphaelle Heaf published an explanation on the G-Cloud blog, but did not give an indication as to when the store would go back online. She said the outage was due to the amount of testing that had been required on the updated store.
"We're working as hard as we can to prepare CloudStore and with so much data there are a lot of checks that we need to run before we open this up," she wrote. Heaf admitted that the username and password prompt "isn't the best option", but insisted it was the only way the team could test the live store following its big increase in suppliers and functionality improvements.
She added: "With G-Cloud 4 we had a great response and have a huge number of services to update and add."
The G-Cloud scheme is intended to level the playing field for IT vendors when vying for contracts with government departments and public sector bodies. It goes hand in hand with the government's "cloud first" strategy, which encourages all departments to consider cloud-based solutions before opting for an on-premise purchase.
V3 contacted the Cabinet Office to inquire when the store would be fully working again, but no response had been received at the time of publishing.
