Samsung is now shipping its slimline Ativ Book 9 Lite laptop in the UK, with a quad-core processor, according to the firm, while the even slimmer Ativ Book 9 Plus is due for release later this month.
Available now from the Samsung Experience Store, John Lewis and Dixons, the Ativ Book 9 Lite is a 13.3in laptop that is 16.9mm thick – comparable to Apple's MacBook Air – and weighs in at 1.44kg.
Aimed at business travellers, students and those on the move, the Ativ Book 9 Lite runs an unspecified quad-core processor clocked at 1.4GHz, backed by 4GB memory and a 256GB solid state drive (SSD).
Samsung ships the system with Windows 8 as standard, and so a touchscreen option is available for the 1366x768 display, but this bumps up the thickness to 17.4mm and weight to 1.58kg.
The Ativ Book 9 Lite is equipped with USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports, micro HDMI and mini VGA outputs and supports Ethernet via a dongle. Battery life is quoted by Samsung at 8.5 hours, and the price is around £500.
Also due later this month is the Ativ Book 9 Plus, which is based on Intel Core i5 and Core i7 chips. It is 13.6mm thick and weighs 1.39kg.
The Ativ Book 9 Plus boasts a 13.3in touchscreen with an impressive 3200x1800 quad HD+ resolution, which Samsung claims as offering "the ultimate viewing experience".
This model will come equipped with 8GB memory and a 256GB SSD, and a quoted battery life of up to 12 hours. Pricing is expected to be around £1,200.
