Oracle has updated its Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) suite with usability and integration improvements, which will allow the firm to better compete with rival SAP, according to analysts.
The Hyperion EPM suite combines both performance management and analytics tools, while integrating with ERP applications, to ensure businesses can monitor their financial, planning and strategy management data.
Hari Sankar, Oracle vice president of product management, said the update would help firms make better use of the growing amounts of data being collected.
"To unlock the potential in their business, finance executives and operating managers need agile planning processes, better insights into profitability, and real-time visibility into financial and operating performance," he said.
The latest update, Oracle Hyperion EPM system Release 22.214.171.124, allows Oracle Hyperion Profitability and Cost Management to run on the Oracle Exalytics In-Memory Machine. The machine is Oracle's big data solution, encompassing a fast business intelligence platform with optimised hardware.
Usability enhancements have been added to Oracle's Hyperion Planning application to allow chief financial officers (CFOs) to better plan for growth, while ease-of use updates have also been made to the Financial Management Analytics and Hyperion Financial Close Management applications to help businesses enhance their reporting.
Oracle has also added improved data integration and master data governance features to the Hyperion Financial Data Quality Management and Data Relationship Management applications.
MWD Advisors analyst Helena Schwenk, told V3 that Oracle customers will benefit from such enhancements.
"These enhancements seem like sensible improvements to the core Hyperion EPM stack and in my opinion it underlines the company's commitment to servicing the CFO as well as an effort to firm up its position against its chief rival SAP in the financial management space," she said.
In related news, open source business intelligence firm Jaspersoft has partnered with HR solutions firm PeopleMatter to give HR professionals access to a big data solution that will allow them to better hire talent.
Earlier this week Oracle's new UK User Group chairman told V3 about his plans to try and give Oracle customers a greater say in the firm's strategy.
