Twitter has expanded its service that allows messages to contain links to apps, products and image galleries in a move to boost business use of the site and increase user interaction.
The new updates are part of its so-called Twitter Cards that allows messages to be expanded with more information, such as an image and the first line of a web page when you post a link to another website on the service.
Now, if a user posts content based on a service such as Vine or YouTube, a button can be added to let users download the app themselves directly from the message, in a move to try and increase users of a service.
“With mobile app deep-linking, users will be able to tap a link to either view content directly in your app, or download your app, depending on whether or not they have your app installed,” said head of platform at Twitter Jason Costa in a blog post.

Furthermore, the firm is bringing in the ability to show a gallery slideshow of images, rather than just a single image, while product information from sites can be used to showcase price, ratings and descriptions to enhance user engagement.
The firm also announced that a host of new firms are taking advantage of its Card capabilities, including Angry Birds, SoundCloud, Flickr and Path and that is has updated the system for creating Cards to be easier to use for developers.
“The new Cards system lays a foundation that will make it easier for us to develop more types of Cards in the future and allow for greater customisation by publishers and developers,” added Costa.
The move underlines the growing push by Twitter to expand its capabilities beyond simply messaging to a wider content and advertising based network in order to drive more revenues froms its hugely popular site.
