Citrix is to acquire mobile virtualisation and device management specialist Zenprise, ina a deal will expand Citrix's virtualisation suite into the mobile handset and tablet markets.
Smit Dhawan, Citrix vice president and general manager, said that the deal would allow the company to extend its virtualisation and management platforms. The mobile software will be added to the company's application and data management tools.
"Zenprise brings a leading recognised mob device mangmnt solution," Dhawan said.
"In this case it was very, very clear that Citrix and Zenprise had a shared vision."
Citrix has recently been making a push to extend its virtualisation and management tools into the mobile space. Earlier this year the company released the Citrix Receiver client application for both desktop and mobile platforms.
For Zenprise, the deal will also allow for an expansion in the enterprise market. Chief executive Amit Pande said that the Citrix acquisition will help the company extend its efforts into the commercialisation space.
"There is an onslaught of devices of all shapes and flavours in the enterprise today," Pande said.
"We have had a sense that devices are just the beginning, it is really about putting devices to work."
