Apple is reportedly planning a massive release for its much-rumoured iPad Mini tablet, which includes preparations to ship an eye-popping 10 million tablets.
A report from the Wall Street Journal cited sources in the manufacturing industry in claiming that Apple had put in the order in anticipation of a looming release for the small-screen tablet.
While Apple has yet to provide any sort of confirmation or details on the new iPad, leaked information from manufacturers suggests that the company is looking to expand its tablet line and challenge smaller devices such as the Amazon Kindle Fire.
Amazon has said that it will begin offering the Kindle Fire in the UK later this month, while reports have suggested that Apple would look to roll out its new iPad in time for the holiday shopping season.
Early reports have suggested that the device would introduce a number of hardware features from the iPhone 5, including the "Lightning" connection port.
In order to get through the season, Apple would likely need to have more than the reported 10 million units in production. The company's most recent hardware release, the iPhone 5, topped the five million sales mark just three days into its retail run.
Apple reported that in the last financial quarter alone it sold some 17 million iPads with even higher numbers projected for the coming months.
