SAN FRANCISCO: Oracle is hoping that the shared interface and backbone of its enterprise platforms will help to drive customer adoption of its software and service lines.
Speaking at the company's 2012 OpenWorld conference, executives from Oracle's Taleo, RightNow, PeopleSoft and JD Edwards divisions were among the panelists touting advantages of Oracle's efforts to better unify and integrate its acquired businesses.
Steve Miranda, Oracle senior vice president of applications development, said that platforms such as the Fusion brand were part of an effort by Oracle to offer users a number of choices for application development, ranging from traditional on-premise tools to SaaS and hybrid models which combine traditional and cloud deployments.
"The choice is for you to decide if and when you want to upgrade from one of our products to the next," Miranda said.
"If you so choose you can migrate to a Fusion app or a service or a SaaS."
To help push the initiative, the company said that it would be looking to redesign elements such as product interfaces in order to improve the ease of use and speed with which tasks can be carried out.
"Given that our software is focused on serving the needs of management and employees, we have been maniacally focused on usability," said Oracle Taleo senior vice president of products and technology Jason Blessing.
"The goal is to streamline interface, data flows, process flows and really take the burden off of IT departments."
Oracle is also hoping to better integrate the platforms. Oracle global vice president of product development David Vap said that platforms such as RightNow have benefited from taking advantage of the features and services offered by other platforms.
"We are putting together the best possible customer experience portfolio in the industry bar none," said Vap.
"We are working with all of the other team members to create the key innovations and the handoffs between those different product sets."
