SAN FRANCISCO: Salesforce is to expand its Chatter collaboration platform with the introduction of file-sharing capabilities.
Speaking at the company's 2012 Dreamforce conference, Salesforce Chatter executive vice president Nasi Jazayeri said the Chatterbox feature would dramatically improve users' ability to collaborate on projects and stay updated on changes and developments.
Described by the company as "DropBox for the enterprise," Chatterbox will allow users to upload and sync files with others in their group. Once uploaded, shared files will be updated every time the original is saved and will be viewable on both desktop and mobile devices.
"Files are one of the most heavily used features in Chatter, files are to enterprise what photos are to Facebook," Jazayeri said.
"Chatterbox allows you to bring all your files and make all your files social, you have access to your files across all your devices and it is tightly coupled as part of your day-to-day workflow."
Along with employee collaboration Salesforce is hoping to improve the way companies communicate with partners and end users. To help expand support and service options, the company has rolled out a new portal platform.
Jazayeri said that the company's aim was to go above and beyond the technical and design limitations of the traditional web portal formats. The service will merge elements of the Chatter and Site.com services with the Salesforce platform, cloud and service cloud offerings.
"Social revolution is customer revolution," Jazayeri said, "most of our customers, as they get more and more educated with social business, are asking us to provide them a community so they can bring their customers and partners together."
