SAN FRANCISCO: Salesforce is hoping to sell business users on the collaboration and communication benefits of its Work.com platform.
The company said that the platform, which allows firms to manage corporate goals and employee performance management, could provide a more flexible and agile method for managing employees.
Unlike traditional human resource systems, which rely on a set calendar for annual or semi-annual evaluations, the Work.com service is designed to constantly keep employees in touch with managers and regularly setting goals.
"It is a little unfair to criticise them but the fact is human resources systems are not looking to solve this problem," said John Wookey, executive vice president of Work.com and social applications for Salesforce.
"They are not really about management, they are about administration."
Rather than use a conventional calendar or scheduling system, the Work.com service allows teams to set common goals which can then be broken down into individual goals for each employee. The goals can then be tracked by both the employee and manager.
Additionally, the company said that the platform will prove valuable when deciding personnel moves by providing a history of performance, goals met and recent promotions or job changes.
The rollout is part of a larger push by Salesforce to introduce social networking components into its enterprise services and web applications. The company believes that the deeper connections and insights afforded by such platforms will ultimately allow for improved productivity and better analysis of customer and partner relations.
"In the end that is what people are about, trying to build business value," said Wookey.
"We all know that reg coaching, real-time feedback, public recognition and efficient performance management will yield strong results in sales service and performance."
