Microsoft has added a list of PC vendors including Dell and Lenovo to its list of upcoming Windows RT device vendors.
The company said that the two firms, along with Samsung, are developing ARM-based tablets which will run the RT edition of Windows 8. Microsoft gave no word on a possible launch date for the devices.
Microsoft has already provided vendors with the Release to Manufacturing (RTM) builds of both the x86-based and RT editions of Windows 8. General availability is scheduled for 26 October.
"You will need to stay tuned for more details; PC manufacturers will be unveiling their products as we approach the Windows 8 and Windows RT launch," Microsoft ecosystem and planning vice president Mike Angiulo said in a company blog post.
"What I can say is the spectrum of form factors and peripherals being developed to meet each unique customer’s computing needs is unique in the industry."
The addition of the three vendors builds on a Windows RT tablet line which looks to be led by the ARM edition of Microsoft's Surface tablet. The company unveiled the Surface tablet earlier this Summer in an effort to spearhead development of Windows RT tablets.
Asus is also planning to support the Windows RT platform with its Tablet 600 system.
Microsoft said that in addition to the PC design deals, the company was working with Nvidia, Qualcomm and Texas Instruments to develop ARM CPUs for use with Windows RT.
"Our engineering collaboration on these Windows RT PCs has been strong, collaborating with the PC manufacturers, silicon partners, and operators to focus on hardware, software and services integration," Angiulo wrote.
"Each respective partner was committed to sharing early iterations of their products, whether it was a SoC bring-up board, early builds of Windows RT, firmware and drivers, or hundreds of pre-release PC hardware samples."
