SAP has updated its business intelligence BusinessObjects portfolio with predictive analytics software as part of its ongoing push in the big data market.
SAP said the Predictive Analysis software, which is currently available through the firm's Ramp-Up programme, can be used by firms as a tool for predictive modeling and advanced virtualisation, and could also be used alongside the SAP Hana database for big data analytics.
Businesses can use the new software to understand how historical sales, costs, and other key metrics translate to future performance, or to reveal the causes of customer satisfaction and employee turnover, said the firm.
Once an SAP customer has loaded data into the Hana database, or an alternative data source, they can then use the new software for predictive modeling, visualisations and data exploration.
Drag-and-drop interface capabilities are available for data selection and processing.
"Analytics solutions from SAP are powering a decision-making revolution for businesses that recognise the future starts a second from now, not a week or a year from now," said John Schweitzer, SAP analytics senior vice president and general manager.
"With SAP's comprehensive approach to predictive analytics, more people in the business can explore, visualise and share insights from exploding volumes and varieties of data."
While predictive modeling has traditionally been the domain of statisticians and data scientists, SAP said it intends to bring the technology to business analysts.
With the software, analysts can create models either by using the predictive algorithms included or can integrate and use algorithms from the R open-source data analysis and statistical language, said SAP.
SAP said it intends to integrate the new software with its Sybase IQ server in the near future.
The firm's core focus for the last year or so has been the sector of big data analytics, and recent customer events have mainly been dominated by talk of the technology, chiefly the Hana database.
