Picsel has released a new version of its Smart Office mobile productivity tool for Android devices, adding the ability to print documents to a wireless printer, and a new view that lets the user open a document at any page.
Available now from the Android Market, Smart Office 2 is a revamped version of the application, which already allows users to open and edit Word, Excel and Powerpoint files and which integrates with the Dropbox and Google Docs cloud storage services.
As well as a revamped user interface, the latest version introduces new features designed to put Smart Office ahead of its competition in the mobile office app market, Picsel marketing director Zubair Salim told V3.
"Now that all the features we've had for a while, like touch to pan and zoom, are pretty standard across the board, we made an effort to get back to innovation with this version," he said.
To this end, Smart Office 2 includes a new Print Room feature that supports printing directly to a wireless printer, with no need for users to install a separate printing app.
A broad range of printers from vendors including HP, Epson, Canon and Samsung are supported, and the app even shows an animation of each page being printed.
Also new is a Document Info view, which allows users to quickly scan through a document and choose to open it for editing at a specific page, with shortcuts to quickly print, copy, rename, delete or share files.
Other enhancements include drag-and-drop editing in Word, Excel and PowerPoint files, plus the ability to save an Office document as a PDF file.
Picsel also announced Smart Office Lite, a free version of Smart Office that allows users to view and print files, with an option to upgrade to the full version with its editing capabilities.
Smart Office 2 is priced at the same £5.99 as earlier releases. More details are available at the Picsel website.
