O2 and Orange are the most popular mobile network providers, according to a new report by Ofcom, as network connectivity and fast mobile broadband becomes increasingly important for consumers and mobile workers.
The operators both received a 72 per cent satisfaction score from the 3,000 mobile users surveyed by Ofcom, with just 10 per cent announcing they were dissatisfied and 18 neutral.
Orange's partner T-Mobile scored a slightly higher 12 per cent dissatisfaction rate, Vodafone placed fourth with 66 per cent satisfaction and 14 per cent dissatisfaction, while bottom of the pile was Three with just 60 per cent satisfaction.
Broadband firms fared far worse. Virgin Media chalked up the highest dissatisfaction rate with 19 per cent of consumers complaining about their services, and just 57 per cent satisfied.
BT achieved the same satisfaction rate as its rival, but scored a slightly lower dissatisfaction rate (18 per cent), while Sky was the surprise number one firm with a satisfaction score of 64 per cent and just 15 per cent dissatisfaction.
Ofcom's consumer group director, Claudio Pollack, said the figures underlined that communication providers can always look to improve their services as connectivity to the internet becomes a central aspect of everyday life.
"Ofcom hopes this research will both incentivise providers to improve all aspects of their customer service, as well as give consumers valuable information about the standards of customer service when choosing a provider," she said.
On Thursday, Ofcom told internet service providers (ISPs), such as BT and Virgin Media, to improve transparency into traffic management policies to give home workers and consumers better insight into the services they will receive.
