Hosting and cloud computing specialist Rackspace has launched its Critical Sites service in the UK, designed to offer a hosting platform for e-commerce and other firms that rely on their web sites and applications to generate revenue, build brands and retain customers.
Available in the US since October 2010, Critical Sites combines a 100 per cent uptime service level guarantee with web monitoring and reporting tools to provide improved visibility into any infrastructure-related problems, said Rackspace.
These include global web site performance monitoring, load testing and server burst tools to ensure that no web site is overwhelmed by sudden demand.
Additional service level agreements (SLAs) include a notification guarantee of any performance issues within five minutes of their identification by Rackspace, a promise to replace faulty hardware within an hour of its identification, and a double money back payout if the SLAs are not reached.
Customers of Critical Sites also benefit from Rackspace's roster of highly trained engineers to monitor performance, spot any issues before they get out of hand and even provide insight into any apps performance problems.
Rackspace co-founder Graham Weston told V3 that, although the web is important for all companies today, the new service will be particularly attractive to those that are not prepared to compromise to ensure that their site is up and performing well at all times.
"The more critical something is the less likely firms are to entrust it outside their particular territory," he said of the UK-based service.
"IBM, DPS etc are all great at back-office functions but not [at supporting] continuous uptime web systems. We'll sit around the table with a customer and figure out the potential vulnerabilities and then manage the site to make sure it doesn't fail. Downtime is our enemy."
