Dell has updated its KACE K1000 appliance to add more inventory and asset management capabilities.
The K1000 is the third update since Dell acquired Kace just over a year ago, and offers integration with Dell Warranty cloud-based services to monitor the warranty status of Dell kit.
This new integration, along with other asset and inventory management enhancements, is designed to help IT managers plan and optimise IT resource allocation, use and lifecycles, according to Seann Gardiner, Dell KACE sales director for EMEA.
“With the enhanced reporting and Dell Warranty information, users can answer questions like, how many machines do I have that are Windows 7 ready, or how many do I need to retire?” he said.
The ability to serve strategic information about licensing as well as warranties, beyond operational systems performance, has been added in response to customer demand, added Gardiner.
“The K1000 has always been able to do licence compliance,” he said. “We’ve just made it easier with our enhanced reporting system.”
The new web-based reporting engine is being positioned as a quick and lightweight way of creating custom reports on licence compliance violations or unapproved software installations.
This is in comparison to process-driven Windows consoles or the Silverlight-based tools of its software-only competitors, the firm said.
The release also features a new Windows agent to simplify Windows-based systems deployment.
“The new agent doesn’t impede endpoint system performance,” said Gardiner.
He added that this makes it is easier to get a real-time view of activity and inventory, in addition to speeding up agent deployment.
“You can really use it to improve not only the end-user experience but levels of IT compliance,” he said.
The new Dell KACE K1000 release is available as a hardware appliance or a software-only virtualised version that plugs into VMware environments.
The new Dell KACE 1000 Management Appliance and Dell Warranty integration will be available from 20 May priced from $8,900 (£5,469) for 100 nodes. Unlimited node and special educational pricing is also available.
