EMC has announced new applications for its Mozy online backup service designed to offer Android, iPhone and iPad users the ability to access the files they protect with the service while on the go.
The Mozy mobile app for the iPhone works on all iOS 4.0 devices including the iPad and iPod Touch, and is available immediately, while the Android app will be out soon and runs on Android 2.0 and later versions, according to the firm. Both are free of charge to existing MozyHome users.
The app allows users to view documents and open them in other applications, preview photos in thumbnail and download those they want, and upload photos to Facebook.
"When we first mentioned a Mozy app for iPhone and Android to our MozyHome customers a month ago, the feedback was overwhelmingly positive," said Charlotte Yarkoni, chief operating officer of Mozy.
"We're very excited to announce that it's now available in the iTunes App Store and our customers can access all of their backed up data from their iOS or Android mobile device."
A version of the firm's business oriented MozyPro for Android and iOS devices will be available soon. The MozyHome smartphone apps are currently available only in the US but will come to the UK soon, according to the firm.
Last month EMC updated Mozy for Mac users. Mozy 2.0 for Mac is aimed at SMEs and includes faster upload speeds and file scanning and greater visibility into backed up files.
