Tibco has unveiled a social networking tool designed to allow employees to keep track of relevant data in the office or when working remotely.
Tibbr has Facebook-style functions such as chat and information sharing, as well as business tools including live data updates and the ability to have private conversations.
"The amount of information is growing all the time, so it's becoming ever more important for staff to find and access relevant information instantly and easily," said Ram Menon, executive vice president at Tibco.
"This tool allows users to see real-time updates on, for example, if purchase orders have been approved or if invoices have been paid. This means everyone involved is seeing the same information in a single location as it happens."
Users can also import feeds from web sites including Twitter, Blogger, Facebook and LinkedIn, as well as Salesforce, SAP or Oracle business applications.
Menon claimed that Tibbr has been developed with security in mind to alleviate concerns about the use of social networking tools at work.
"We've made the product highly secure so users can talk among themselves in select groups about confidential information or share data securely, as well as giving IT staff the ability to govern which users can see what information," he said.
Tibbr is accessible on the iPhone, iPad, Android and BlackBerry operating systems to ensure that information is always available on the go, according to Menon.
"We've also added the ability to have updates sent to your device informing you that an invoice has been paid, or a daily or weekly briefing on the status of a shipping order, for example," he said.
The tool is available hosted in the cloud or on premise, and pricing is based on a per user per month system. No definitive information has been announced.
Analyst firm Gartner has predicted that sales of enterprise social networking applications will rise by 15 per cent this year, and reach the $1bn (£625m) mark in the next few years.
