IT managed services company Adapt has launched a virtual datacentre service promising flexibility and easy to understand payment rates for previously sceptical customers.
Adapt Virtual Data Centre offers a choice between co-location or managed services, and a pay-as-you-grow payment model.
The service is designed to appeal to companies interested in virtualisation but wary of embracing it wholesale, and will alleviate concerns about resources, capital investment and a lack of technical know-how, the firm explained.
"In today's increasingly aggressive and changing business environment, organisations must be more agile and responsive if they are to remain competitive," said Simon Fisk, sales and marketing director at Adapt.
"With our Virtual Data Centre offering, our customers can benefit from phenomenal levels of resilience and datacentre flexibility without the traditionally associated financial or management headaches."
Adapt provides the service through a partnership with datacentre providers, including Level 3, Sentrum and Global Switch, and its dark fibre high-availability network that connects the facilities.
"Over the years, working with Adapt has offered Level 3 a successful route to market that complements our core competences," said James Heard, president of European markets at Level 3.
"Adapt provides services into all of our global gateways. With its extensive fibre connectivity, customers co-located at another Adapt facility can easily connect back to our datacentres for business continuity if needed."
Adapt described the service as vendor neutral, meaning that companies can take whatever parts of their infrastructure they like, and hand over their administration.
Chief information officers are expecting to increase spending on cloud-based services over the next four years, according to a survey published last week by analyst firm Gartner.
Just three per cent of respondents are currently using such services, according to the survey, but 43 per cent plan to do so within the next four years.
