Hewlett-Packard is shipping the first of its fibre-channel clusters for Windows NT on the Intel-based Net Server systems.
Designed to be highly available, high capacity systems for critical data, they come with HP's Autoraid Disk Array Model 12H, the High Availability Disk Array Model 30/FC and EMC's Symmetrix system.
A key benefit of clustered computing is that systems stay up in the event of a single unit failure, and HP is laying claim to enhanced performance, ease of use and scalability.
The Autoraid technology simplifies storage management processes by automating many administration tasks; and both the High Availability Disk Array Model 30/FC and EMC's Symmetrix systems scale up to 6Tb of storage capacity. HP is still the only vendor to have EMC Symmetrix certification for both Windows NT and Unix.
Marilyn Edling, general manager of HP's Enterprise Storage division, said: "Fibre-channel clustering plays a key role in supporting high performance, fault tolerant requirements of business-critical applications [such as] OLTP and data warehousing."
Clusters using the High Availability Disk Array Model 30/FC are available now at $40,000 and the Autoraid models are scheduled for the year-end at $30,000. The EMC-based systems should be available by the end of the summer, but prices are not available yet.
