Lucent has signed a $108 million contract to build a national telecomms network in Ireland for telcos Ocean and BT.
Ocean - set up in June as a division of the Irish Electricity Supply Board, to provide a national telephone system - aims to provide voice and data services, in partnership with BT, by the time the Irish market is fully deregulated in December.
Lucent's infrastructure will link Dublin, Belfast, Cork, Limerick, Galway and Waterford using optical technology.
