Intel is considering putting Shiva?s remote access products through its own third party channel because it has no consumer offerings of its own.
Intel made a bid for Shiva a few weeks ago as part of its attempt to boost its presence in the networking space, and one Intel official at N+I explained the company?s rationale in Paris this week.
"Intel has no products on the market dedicated to connecting PCs via remote access. Intel plans to put in the market some products for the home market, but I can?t be more specific," he said.
While the chip giant has a large range of low end networking tools such as network interface cards, it lacks products beyond that, but, according to Phil Crocker, Shiva?s senior director of international marketing, its offerings will help Intel achieve its goal of connecting billions of PCs together.
Shiva will also help Intel sell more processors, Crocker claimed, because if networking bandwidth increases, users will need bigger machines with more powerful chips.
The remote access supplier was a t N+I this week, however, to flesh out its own product line.
New announcements include the Lan Rover VPN Express, which is a 50 simultaneous tunnelling tool, aimed at small to medium sized organisations. It sits beneath the VPN gateway launched in June and provides access to corporate networks via private, encrypted tunnels over the Internet.
Multiple Lan Rover gateways can also be clustered to support more than 2,000 connections.
The Lan Rover D56 Quad BRI is also targetted at small and medium sized businesses that require 56K dial in over ISDN basic rate connections. The offering supports 16 ISDN B channels for analogue and digital links.
Lastly, Shiva also unveiled its Access Manager 4.0 remote access authentication and accounting system, which includes support for LDAP, SNMP and multilevel management.
