Search applications vendor Endeca has launched a mobile version of its popular e-commerce product designed to give online retailers the tools to build and update mobile web sites quickly and easily.
Endeca Mobile Commerce gives the firm's existing customers the opportunity to manage fixed web and mobile sites through one platform, reducing total cost of ownership and improving manageability, the firm said.
The mobile version offers the same out-of-the-box functionality as Endeca's regular e-commerce offering, with pre-packaged templates and plug-ins optimised for various devices including the iPhone, iPad and Android-based systems.
These Page Builder templates allow regular business users to make changes to pages in minutes rather than the weeks it traditionally takes to effect such changes through the IT department, Endeca claimed.
This allows companies to be more agile and business users more productive, the firm said, and frees up IT to concentrate on more important strategic tasks.
The pre-built plug-ins, known as 'cartridges', also enable a more tailored user experience.
"A lot of retailers are recognising that they need to go mobile, but there's almost a feeling of panic as to how to do it," said Endeca mobile product marketing manager Brenna Johnson.
"No-one is arguing with the fact that mobile is just as important as a .com storefront. It's about having complete visibility of your customers and the ability to offer a multi-channel experience."
